According to the government gazette, a division of the Macau game operator Galaxy Entertainment Group Ltd. is looking to register its "Broadway" trademark in Macau.
The application, seen on the GGRAsia show, Galaxy Entertainment Ltd., contained several requests to register Broadway trademarks in the city, such as "Broadway Cotai," "Broadway Resort," and "Broadway Hotel & Casino." In 2010, Galaxy Entertainment Licensing also filed for the "Galaxy Macao" trademark.
The company has filed trademark requests for a variety of uses, including casino operations, hospitality, retail, entertainment and restaurants.
According to the general procedure, if there is no legal issue with the trademark, the trademark can be formalized within two months.
Galaxy Entertainment, approached by GGRAasia, was not immediately available for comment, adding that "more information will be published later."
The casino operator is currently expanding its Galaxy Macau resort in Kotai, with Phase 2 expected to open in 2015. However, the company's executives have never mentioned any other names for Phase 2.
Galaxy Entertainment also plans to reopen the Grand Waldo complex next to Galaxy Macau early next year. Galaxy Entertainment acquired the casino hotel for HK$3.25 billion (US$419 million) in 2013.
The Grand Waldo was discontinued last year. The property is currently undergoing a refit.
In April, Francis Louis Yutong, vice president of Galaxy Entertainment, told the Macau Daily News, a Chinese-language newspaper, that the Grand Waldo complex will be family-centric, complementary to the Galaxy Macao.
Louis said Grand Waldo will host regular performances such as singing and magic, the newspaper reported.
